Oh, my. You guys are going to want to crack out the Kleenex for this one.

E! News just caught up with Dexter costar Lauren Vélez at Melanie Segal's Hollywood Helps Haiti Event, and the actress teared up when asked about costar Michael C. Hall's cancer diagnosis.

Vélez, who plays Lt. Maria LaGuerta on Showtime's hit series Dexter, tells E! that Hall and his wife, Jennifer Carpenter—who also stars on the Showtime series—kept Hall's illness to themselves during series production this past year.

"You know they've always been incredibly private and kept to themselves, and he's always been very private and throws himself into his work, so I knew nothing of it, and I don't think anyone else did either," says Vélez.

Vélez says she will see Hall and the rest of her costars Friday night at a Showtime dinner.

Dexter is nominated for Best Drama, and Hall himself is nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series at this year's Globes. Velez tells us of the nominations: "We're really excited about it. We are so blessed."

Vélez says the cast and crew return to work on Dexter season five in May.

Love Dexter and MCH as much as we do? Post your "get well soon" messages to Hall in the comments!
