"That is a great idea. We should do that."

So says Glee boss Ryan Murphy about my pitch to have Neil Patrick Harris (Emmy-nominated guest star extraordinaire!) come back to the show in season two, and hook up with the girl his character had a mad crush on in high school: Terri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig).

So will NPH be back? Here's what Neil himself just told us:

Check out what Neil says in the video interview below!

"It's such a tricky thing [because] that's not the network that How I Met Your Mother is on," Neil explains. "So I can't just say, 'Oh, I'll just keep doing Glee's,' because they're on Fox and I'm on CBS. I have bosses that make me sign contracts to keep me at one place for a long period of time, and understandably so. I love the gig, love doing it. They're [the Glee guys] super fun, and they didn't shoot me at the end of the first episode, so if I'm ever able to come back I'd love to."

FREE NPH!

Ahem. Just kidding. Sorta.

"We would love to have Neil back," Ryan tells me. "We have a little problem that he's a regular on another show. But he's in the Fox family and they help us out a great deal with that. I think we've just begun to see the tip of the villainry for Brian Ryan."

Sounds like it might be tougher than Ryan thinks.

CBS probably doesn't want to be overly pimping out another network's hit comedy, especially when NPH's HIMYM is such a quality, sometimes overlooked show. Then again, the more diehard fans of Neil Patrick Harris, the more diehard fans who'll check him out as the amazing (and also Emmy-nominated!) Barney Stinson...Right?!

Regardless, Ryan could have a problem on his hands now that Jessalyn has caught wind of the idea to hook her up with Brian Ryan (NPH).

"You changed my life the other night!" Jessalyn joked to me at the Fox party on Monday, referring to my well-received "Terryan" pitch. "First of all, you may have thrown me into a love triangle. It seems like everyone else is getting one; I don't see why Terri doesn't have one. So, I really want a love triangle. I'm on strike until I get one. It would be awesome. I'm so nervous, Neil is so talented. It would be so fun!"

Of course, Jessalyn is just riffing all in good fun about that whole "strike" thing, but CBS, it might behoove you to just let Glee take NPH for one episode in season two, should they ask. 'Cause if you've seen the show, you know what a scorned Terri Schuester is capable of...(Hint: Not pretty.)

Neil graciously tackled this Glee Q while talking about the production of Rent he is directing at the Hollywood Bowl—with a cast that includes Vanessa Hudgens and Nicole Scherzinger! If you're in Los Angeles this weekend, check it out. Seems like it's going to be an amazing show. There are performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and you can buy tickets here.
