Turns out that the slit-to-there (and down-to-there) Versace dress that Jennifer Lopez made famous at the 2000 Grammy Awards was actually sported one month before by Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, as Buzzfeed pointed out yesterday.
Jennifer (or J.Lo, as we once knew ye) made jaws drop round the world when she stepped out alongside then-beau Sean "Diddy" Combs in the sheer, printed silk chiffon number. The star accessorized her look with sparkly ankle-strap sandals and a high half-up, half-down 'do—which, come to think of it, may be hair-spiration behind Ariana Grande's signature look.
And thus the age of the nearly naked dress was born.
Halliwell, meanwhile, wore the iconic frock (with nothing underneath, just like Lopez) a month before on Jan. 22, 2000, when she attended the NRJ Music Awards in France.
As for why there was no uproar about Geri's—rather sexy, if we do say so ourselves—outing in the dress, well, we guess that story is buried in the annals of fashion times.
