If you still needed proof that the world has gone gaga over Lady Gaga, Twitter now has hard, insurmountable evidence to back that up.

Yep, they've got the numbers, baby.

"The Edge of Glory" diva has secured her place as the most popular person on the planet by zipping past a major milestone for the most number of Twitter followers.

How many does she have? Drumroll please...

Lady Gaga has now racked up a staggering 20 million followers—the first Twitter user to hit that major benchmark.

Her 20 millionth follower signed up for the star's Twitter feed over the weekend.

Natch, she's trailed by four other singers: Justin Bieber is the runner-up with 18.1 million followers, Katy Perry's got 15.7 million, Shakira clocks in at 14.7 million, and Rihanna rounds out the top five with 14.5 million followers.

No doubt Lady Gaga's recent charitable efforts played a big hand in that surge: Last week, she swung by Harvard with Oprah Winfrey to launch her Born This Way Foundation, a youth-empowerment initiative whose anti-bullying vision the singer has always advocated.

So did she post any notable tweets to mark her big Twitter victory?

In true Gaga fashion, the singer was off-kilter and nonplussed: Around the time she amassed her 20 millionth follower, she tweeted: "Best night ever. watching bridal television with HAUS while my stylist burst into tears wishing he was there to style the brides."

Gotta love the gal for keeping it real.
