Oprah's Mom Settles Clothes Call Lawsuit

Moms can be embarrassing. Even—or maybe especially—if you're Oprah Winfrey.

Luckily, the big O's mama is once again leaving the headline-grabbing to her daughter, thanks to the recent settlement of the lawsuit filed against her for failing to make good on a $155,547 debt at a Wisconsin clothing boutique.

Valentina Inc. filed suit against Vernita Lee in July 2008 after the Oprah-birther failed to make good on her minimum monthly payments. Attorneys for Lee played the blame game in their defense, saying the store was at fault for extending her a line of credit in the first place, what with her history of less than stellar repayment practices.

Still, the suit has now been settled and will remain sealed, giving some credence to the report that it was Oprah herself who stepped in to bail out her mother. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the store will receive a partial payment of what was owed.

"We're happy with what transpired," Valentina co-owner Tony Chirchirillo told the paper. "We can get on with our lives; they can get on with theirs."

A judge still needs to sign off on the secret settlement, and a hearing to do just that has been scheduled for Dec. 7.

Rihanna Sings Threesome, Avoids Going Naked on GMA

Loading...

Rihanna almost brought a little too much to her TV concert comeback on Good Morning America.

Two day after performing solo at the American Music Awards, Rihanna made her much-anticipated way to the morning show's outdoor stage in NYC this morning to sing a whopping three tunes: "Wait Your Turn," "Russian Roulette," and fan (and remix) favorite "Umbrella."

But what about that slight lag between new besties Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts announcing Rihanna and the singer's appearance on the stage?

Two words: wardrobe malfunction.

"I'm a little too fat right now, my dress…the zip busted in the back," the svelte-as-always Rihanna explained. "They're like, 'A minute to live,' I'm like, oh my god! They wanted to stitch it up, but I couldn't."

But it wasn't all body talk. After performing her new single, "Wait Your Turn," the superstar paid her now usual lip service to the oh-so-perfect timing of her new album, Rated R.

"It came very natural, only because it was my place of peace, being in the studio, just venting," she said of the post-Chris Brown attack process of recording the album.

"It was the one place where I didn't feel judged or criticized, I just wanted to sit and make great music. Every emotion that I was going through at the time throughout making the record went into that album and you can hear it in the songs."

The album, a surefire No. 1 if ever there was one, was released yesterday.

Which Sin City Starlet Is Dressing Under the Influence?

DUI Reveler Todd Williamson/Getty Images

Halloween is over, but this actress still insists on parading around in her witch costume. Even worse, she pairs the tattered frock with tacky heels (only Mr. T can pull off this gold color!). Bottom line: This outfit is a bigger tragedy than her Pearl Harbor flick.

Style Showdown: Leona Lewis' Fashion Obsession

Leona Lewis Rick Rowell/ABC via Getty Images; Sean Gallup/Getty Images

Do Leona Lewis and Vivienne Westwood have some sort of exclusive fashion agreement? Or is the singer just gunning for Pamela Anderson's modeling gig?

Leona has worn the British designer's creations on the red carpet three times in November alone! First were these sequined harem pants. Then, just last night at the American Music Awards, she wore the same friggin' bodice that she sported at MTV's Europe Music Awards!

We're all for designer devotion. But. Come. On. Switch it up a bit, girl.

Still, the leather bodice makes for one sexy getup. We like the longer, custom-made version better. The added tulle is much more dramatic.

Which version of the dress do you prefer? Vote now in the Style Showdown gallery!

Would You Do...Natalie Portman and Her Blossoms?

More from The Awful Truth

Any excuse to put up a picture of Natalie Portman is OK by us!

Nat celebrated the premiere of her new flick Brothers and looked absolutely yumma-do-me while doing it. But a little on the thin side, no? Guess that's Hollywood for ya.

Love the hair, love the makeup, love the dress. Her 'do looks classy, while the strapless mini, busty-bouquet number keeps her looking young. We forget the age of this mature Harvard alum sometimes, but we do know that that vibrant blue hue is impeccable.

One thing missing from the party was costar Jake Gyllenhaal.

Is that because he was home playing with his hair?

Fashion Police: Too Many Bad Dresses at the AMAs

Last night's AMAs were not only about tripping all over yourself, they were also about bad fashion. Yay, our favorite!

Nicole Kidman continues to underwhelm us in another pastel, ruffled, tiered dress, this time by Balenciaga. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez went with too much matchy-matchy white in head-to-toe Gucci. We will say it's nice to see her smile and not doing that sex face she usually makes.

A couple of question regarding Kristen Bell. What is she doing there? And is that really a tube top with a high-waisted skirt? OK, cool, just wanted to make sure we were seeing things right because...ew!

Kate Hudson was there to pimp Nine (you know, the movie where she sings) in a vintage Gianni Versace chainmail dress that was not only totally shapeless but was on the verge of exposing some nipple...

Alas, there was flesh-colored mesh under there to keep things covered up.

And finally Kelly Clarkson. Oh, Kelly. Why does she do this to us? We love her so much, we really just want to help her find something flattering to wear. The cut of this dress really isn't doing her any favors (too long), the fishnets are too light to be flattering, the sparkles are more matronly than fun like T.Swift, and the hair could have used some styling.

The craziest thing of all is while these five ladies were all failing at the red carpet, Paula Abdul was actually looking normal and good. Someone please explain that.

But wait! There were some people at the AMAs we liked. See who our Fashion Police actually approved of right here.

Runway to Red Carpet: Is Fergie Spot On?

Model, Fergie Nathalie Lagneau/Catwalking/Getty Images; Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images

Who would have thought Fergie of all people could make a multi-color animal print dress look fierce?

No offense to the singer, but she doesn't always set the fashion bar very high. We would have expected her to go overboard with the matching spotted jacket, as shown on Blumarine's runway?and maybe some bizarre footwear.

Instead, she took fashion cues from Nicky Hilton and Rachel Weisz' more understated style and downplayed the '80s print with a black blazer and trendy zipper Balmain booties.

Or do you still think Fergs looks like technicolor road kill?

Tom Ford: Why I Quit Acting

Tom Ford The Weinstein Company
More from Marc Malkin

Tom Ford's got another movie up his always fashionable sleeve.

But right now, he's still all about his upcoming Oscar-buzzing directorial debut, A Single Man.

"I have something I'm working on but I'm not ready to talk about it," Ford told me at the GQ Men of the Year party. "I just finished [A Single Man] in August and then we went to Toronto, Venice, Tokyo and London promoting it and my head is spinning. Maybe six months after we're finished with all this I'll be able to figure out what I want to do next."

Definitely not on the agenda? Reviving his attempts at an acting career.

"You know, I used to act when I was younger, but I quit," Ford, 48, explains. "I did it from about 17 to 24. I was too self-conscious. I didn't like it. I wasn't in control."

Spoken like a true director.

Which MTV Blond Be-yotch Is Dressing Under the Influence?

DUI Reveler Jeffrey Mayer/Getty Images

Just because this Laguna Beach alum (and current Hills drama queen) is being honored with a Comeback of the Year award doesn't mean she has to try to resurrect Madonna's cone bra. And the 3.1 Phillip Lim zippers? Done and done. And done.

Heidi Klum: Modeling vs. Mommyhood

Heidi Klum Matt Symons PacificCoastNews.com
More from H'Wood Party Girl

Hot mama Heidi Klum left her kids—and her heart—back in California to come host the Victoria's Secret fashion show in NYC today.

Klum's been a leggy fixture on the lingerie catwalk for years, but understandably this time around, it was hard for the mom of four to leave her little ones—including newborn Lou—back in L.A.

"It is, but tomorrow at noon, I'll be back home," Heidi said of her quickie trip to the Big Apple. "I take the first flight at 7:30!"

But as long as she's emceeing the sexy CBS special, there is one thing Heidi's really looking forward to...
