Change is coming to The Closer.

Let's rephrase that—big changes (plural) are coming to The Closer when season five premieres Monday night on TNT...especially if you ask the lady in charge, Kyra Sedgwick.

We caught up with her Tuesday at the Carlton Hotel in New York City, where she was hosting a brunch in honor of Tropicana's Trop50 and the launch of its web series, The Juice.

"This season's theme is about change," Sedgwick told us. "There have been a couple changes in the squad, and Brenda's a married woman."

While those alterations were to be expected, the Golden Globe winner dropped a few hints about death, romance and, yes, babies in the upcoming episodes.

How is married life with Fritz (Jon Tenney) treating Brenda?
I think it will be something that's challenging for her. I think she's a workaholic, and she's more married to her work than anything else. I think that that is going to be an ongoing issue for both of them.

Will be we hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet anytime soon?
The issue of children, of course, comes up. Fritz is hitting that hard.

Backing up for a moment, were you disappointed not to film Brenda and Fritz's actual wedding ceremony? [The finale skipped straight to the reception.]
I worried that it would be disappointing for the fans not to hear them say "I do" and stuff like that. But I think people enjoyed it, and I think it's sort of a very Brenda experience for her to be in the midst of solving a case while she's getting married. I think that the moment at the end, when she says, "I love you with all my heart, but sometimes I feel like my heart's only this big." I love that line. I just thought that line was so beautiful and telling and sad and really the way she feels. She deals with murders and killers, so she feels as though her heart has gotten smaller, and she's gotten hard.

Will we get to see her soften up at all this season?
When she loses someone very close to her, I think you'll see a very soft fragility. But I like that—her womanly side, her softer side and her very vulnerable side.

Anything fun in store for Provenza (G.W. Bailey)?
Cynical Provenza gets a girlfriend and tries to see if he can love again.

Any guest stars we should be looking forward to seeing?
One of the things I'm most excited about is Mary McDonnell (from Battlestar Galactica) comes on and plays an antagonist for Brenda. It's really great for Brenda to have a female antagonist, I think. And Lee Tergesen from Oz. We're trying to get someone great for the next episode. I don't know who it's gonna be.

Season five of The Closer premieres Mon., June 8 at 9 p.m. on TNT. Want more Kyra? She also told us about the advice Kevin Bacon gave Chace Crawford about the Footloose remake!
